NHS pay calculator

Take-home pay for Agenda for Change staff in England, 2026/27, with your NHS Pension worked out automatically. Doctors and dentists are on different pay systems and aren't covered.

Your job

Full time is 37.5 hours. Part-time pay and HCAS are pro rata. HCAS is 20% of basic pay in inner London, 15% in outer London and 5% in the fringe, between set minimums and maximums. Your zone depends on your contractual work base.

NHS Pension

Your rate is set by your actual yearly pensionable pay. Leave it on automatic unless your payslip shows a different rate.

Extra pay

According to NHS Pensions, extra hours up to full time (part-time staff, at your basic rate) and on-call availability on a rota count for your pension. Overtime above full-time hours, overtime enhancements and one-off bonuses don't. Your payslip shows which of your payments are pensionable.

      About these figures

      • Pay points and London HCAS are the official NHS Employers 2026/27 rates for England, which took effect on 1 April 2026 after a 3.3% award.
      • NHS Pension contributions are taken before income tax but not before National Insurance. Your employer also pays 23.7% of your pensionable pay into the scheme, on top of your salary.
      • Unsocial hours enhancements aren't included automatically, because they depend on when you work. Add them under extra pay.
      • Figures are yearly estimates. Payroll works out tax and NI each month, so a month with overtime will look different. Want more options, like a tax code? Use the main calculator.
